O C Smith, as you all no doubt recall, sang the songs from the movie “Shaft”. Uh, wait, no, that was the movie after that, “Shaft’s Big Score!”. “Blowin’ Your Mind”, written by Gordon Parks, and featuring the lyric:
“A crude dude who shovels his food…”

Carol Channing sang at that Super Bowl, a stirring tribute (har har) to Mardis Gras. The first real pop act to appear in a Super Bowl half-time extravaganza was New Kids on the Block. Super Bowl XXV. I think I was too uptight that day to enjoy it. I still have a hard time watching.
